About Adoption Mama
I am so blessed to have a wonderful loving family that includes a daughter from China. Both the Chinese and English languages use “mama” as a term of endearment for mothers, so the natural name for our company was “Adoption Mama”. I love that the word “mama” transcends language barriers, just as the loving touch of a mother does when first meeting her new child. Adoption has been a wonderful, magical journey, and a beautiful gift in my life. For those of us that have a child that does not “look like us” we know there is a natural predisposition of people to think it is OK to ask just about any question, since it seems obvious that the child or children are not biologically related to us. (Sometimes they are wrong, I know!) I believe most people are good natured and well-intentioned, and are looking for a way to strike up a conversation. Since it “seems obvious” my daughter is adopted, it must be OK to ask anything, right? As adoptive parents you have either heard some of these crazy questions, or you will soon!
Adoption Mama was launched to:
* Give us adopting and adoptive mamas a way to express our joys and wit in a fun and fashionable way
* Combat the unisex white boxy t-shirts found on most adoption sites
* Provide some snappy comebacks to those questions we are all asked
“Adoption Mama” seeks to have some fun while being an adoptive parent in public. Really, I just needed a sassy shirt to wear with my daughter when I was at the grocery! I genuinely hope you enjoy your time with us here. Adoption Mama is more than a brand, it is a way of thinking... a new MAMA attitude! I look forward to hearing the feedback of all my fellow Adoption Mamas out there!
